LCCI 商業專科班

The Department of Commercial Studies was founded and established as a non-profitable institution with the sole objective of providing opportunities for the less privileged to acquire professional training and skills in accounting and business, which otherwise would be not accessible to them locally. In the past ten years, we have attracted students of a wide range of academic abilities, different social and economical backgrounds and various aspirations. It is for these diverse groups of young school leavers that we have tailored our programmes to their needs and aspirations so that they become positively motivated and prepared to play their respective roles, contributive to the development of the community and the nation.

We are particularly happy that most of our graduates have been able to find a sense of direction at the end of the two years here. Some went on to pursue professional qualifications in Accountancy. We have record of our graduates obtaining ACCA qualification within two years. Some have chosen to pursue university degrees in Business and Commerce. Others have ventured into the commercial and business sectors. While the unemployment rate of our young people is going up in recent years, our graduates are fortunate enough to be spared of it because of the practical training and skills they have acquired here.

Within a short period of 10 years, this Department has trained up more than 600 students. The success rates for obtaining Level 3 Certificates and Level 3 Group Diplomas have gone up as high as 96.8% and 80.5% respectively. Top awards won since the first batch of students sitting for the exam in 1994 include a Gold Medallion (World) in Advanced Business Calculations, a Silver Medallion (World) in Economics and 5 Silver Medallions (Malaysia) in Accounting, Advanced Business Calculations and Management Accounting.

We have an ongoing staff development programme to ensure that our students continue to enjoy the benefits and tutelage of lecturers with professional qualifications. Within the last 8 years, we have sponsored 3 of our students to pursue the ACCA and two of them have since returned to teach in this Department. At present, our stuaff includes lecturers with Master's Degrees, ACCA, Bachelor's Degrees and Diplomas in their respective fields of teaching. Besides maintaining highly qualified teaching staff, our classes are kept at optimal size of 30-40 students to facilitate ocunselling and individual attention.

While every effort is made to raise the standard and performance of our students in the pursuit of academic excellence, we do also strive to provide them with the necessary practical training and modern technology know-hows to better equip them for their future endeavours, be it in their pursut in tertiary education or in their respective careers. The School Board of Directors and the Department of Commercial Studies Committee are particularly and conscientious and determined to improve on the facilities for our students. We have expanded our library in 2001. A new computer laboratory with networking has been added this year costing more than RM 110,000.00 to facilitate the teaching of Computerized Account and IT subjects. We are also finalizing a program with an audit and accounting firm to provide practical training.

The school has maintained a good relationship with the business and commercial sectors to assist and facilitate job placement (including part-time jobs) as well as institions of higher learning for professional and degree studies for our students.
